Canadian Federation of University Women

Haliburton Highlands

The Canadian Federation of University Women-Haliburton Highlands (CFUW-HH) advocates for women. Its purpose is to promote and encourage the higher education of women and girls, to improve human rights and the status of women, to encourage an informed interest in public affairs, and to serve the community.

CFUW-HH provides an annual bursary of $500.00 to a young woman graduate of Haliburton Highlands Secondary School proceeding to university, and donates to the Fleming College Scholarship Fund. The club gives to community organizations such as SIRCH, Artists in the Schools, Places for People and the Haliburton County Public Library. Members actively participate in volunteer work for SIRCH and many other community organisations.

At monthly meetings held at Fleming College on the third Thursday of the month, Sept to June, at 7:00pm, members enjoy informative speakers on a wide range of topics. Friendships are developed and members continue to learn through interest groups, such as Book Clubs, Cuisine Groups, Bridge Groups and a Gardening Group. Two fundraising events a year enable our members to raise money to further the purpose of CFUW-HH.

CFUW-HH is part of a national organization (CFUW) with clubs across Canada, and an international organization (IFUW) with ties to the United Nations. Membership is open to all women with a post secondary education or to anyone interested in helping to carry out the work of CFUW. For more information please call 705-447-2402.
